The Brownsville Historical Association, in partnership with the Mexican Consulate, will offer a special lecture on rebozos by Hermilo López Izquierdo, owner of Taller de Rebozos Tenancingo from Mexico. A rebozo is a garment similar to a shawl and is perhaps one of the greatest cultural traditions in Mexican history. The rebozo is not only an ornamental and functional garment, but a tradition and symbol of Mexico.  Hermilo López Izquierdo is from the 3rd generation of family members that have worked for the family business. He has won awards in Mexico and his rebozos have been gifted by the former Mexican president, Enrique Peña Nieto, to government officials. A variety of rebozos and artisanal inventory will be available for purchase.
