From Books to Space
The first instances of local astronomical outreach in the community began with the Brownsville Public Library System. STARS founder Carol Lee Lutsinger would share her knowledge of space through astronomy programs and a StarLab portable planetarium and then local astronomers would share the experiences of the night sky with curious children and families using their own personal telescopes.
In 2019, the South Texas Astronomical Society partnered with the Brownsville Public Library System to restore and upgrade the Southmost Library Observatory along with its 14” Meade LX850 ACF telescope and auto-tracking astronomical software.
Explore the night sky with this powerful observatory by joining us at our next stargazing event.
