The Mitte Cultural District was the vision of the Roy F. & Joann Cole Mitte Foundation when they provided funding for the Dean Porter Park restoration in 1998. They recognized that the area surrounding Dean Porter Park was home to most of the City’s cultural organizations and by designing this area a “Cultural District,” it would provide the impetus to promote and enhance historical, cultural educational and family activities.
